(Creativity Under Pressure)

Due to my sunnden and inexplicable draw to Final Fantasy and other RPGs like it I've had one major question plagueing me. Why are we forced to cram our names and statements into three or four letter slots.

Ultima: Exodus is, in my mind, NOTORIOUS for giving the player only three digits (letter digits) to label your save file and about five for your charicters. Your file name which is supposed to be your uniqueness used for the purpose of distunguishing your file from another person's, is crammed to three digits. Sure, you could use your initials and, although there is something to be said for marking your achevements, the average person's creativity is usually limited to putting his/her own initials. BPZ is not my triple name abbreviation but it does fit and it does show some creativity.

Some arcade machines only allow three digits, probably for your initials, to attach some ownership to your awesome achevement. I think that at sometime in a person's life that person has looked at a high score list and said, "Gee I wonder who the heck GRF is." Now, with thre digits and the used of creativity there can be some abuse. I'm reminded of The Simpsons bowling alley where you can give yourself a funny name like POO or ASS. Hence, this is misuse of creativity. The more letters, the more leway (everybody knows the advantages of four letter slots).

Final Fantasy, great game, but your charicter name is limited to only four digits. Four digits is not enough. Many screen names are more than four alphanumeric digits right? Four digtsd can also leave me with a small memory problem because I keep forgetting which charicter is names BOB. My solution, use FFVII names based on the way I played those charicters. Fighter CLOD (Cloud condensed), Theif YFIE (super condensed), Black Mage CID (Compensates for lack of CID in FFI), and White Mage TIFA (Tifa being my healer in FFVII).

I beg you game makers! Give us more leeway to express ourselves!

(/end my senseless but point-containing ranting)
