p>Welcome to Quickshot? Think Not!

During the phenomenon not known to today's gamers as a "high score" many controllers were released to free the "Average Joe Gamer" from his licensed controller restraints to achieve some sort of enlightenment (high score). (Kind of like Plato's Allegory of the Cave). In their benevolence they did put out quite a bit of crap.

This feature attacks the weak points of a few of the weirdest controllers that I have ever seen.

And wouldn't you know it...They are all from Quickshot...

Quick background on Quickshot...
The Quickshot brand was made by a company called SVI or Spectravideo. Their products were made on Hong Kong. Apparently, these two companies have separated.

Quickshot, apparently stopped making controllers for video games since the days of 64-bit systems. Their website neglects to mention ANY of their past creations but others shed light on the fact that there were countless product. They specialized in PC gaming and created the short lived video game system MSX.
No website that I have found documents the transgression of Quickshot products to the NES, only the PC versions of the controllers. In addition to my XII there, in fact, have been 11 predecessor joypads as well as a few more in higher numbers. And, come to find out, the trackball thingy is actually an adaptation the Quickshot Joyball IX. I have no word on the Joypad.

There you have it, all of SVI/Quickshot's NES controllers are adaptations on their PC controllers.

Spectravideo still makes Gameboy Advance accessories. They have merged with Logic 3 to make many other controllers and light guns. They, apparently, have not gone belly up.

On to the controllers...

Excuse the below photo, tripod garbled the JPEG

Trackball Thingy

The Joyball IX, Oh boy!! To start off, not a very good playing tool. You switch left or right to determine if you will play with the ball facing to the left or the right. Left has the ball to the left and the buttons to the right and vice versa.

The first thing you should know is that many quick shot accessories have micro switches. What are micro switches? They are spring activated input devices that will make your moves register quicker that a dome switch (what you have in your standard issue NES controller). It really does work. The only downside it that it will click when moved.

The Joyball IX has super-useful suction cups on the bottom to prevent movement of the controller, very nifty, and functional.

The Ball will click if you move it. The pedals/buttons will click if you press then. They will click very annoyingly. They click so much that you'll think that you're breaking it. I'm serious...

Like most controllers that were unlicensed, Quickshot had Auto Fire. This feature works on the Joyball IX

XII Joystick

The XII Joystick. You'd think after eleven they there would be an extremely sophisticated and less noisy joystick. Nope.

Like the ball, the joystick and buttons will click. It will click, annoyingly, as I have just mentioned.

It also has the suction cups and the auto fire swich. It also includes a linked select/start button making it very annoying to try and pause the game.

The major problem plaguing the XII is thr fact that the NES is NOT a single handed, flight crafted, joystick system. It is useless, unless you plan to play as player 1 and two simultaneously, which is quite fun.

Did I mention that the suction cups are nifty and serve a purpose...

Public Television, only more interesting...
Ok enough of that...

JoyPad

The Joypad, THE crappiest controller I have ever seen.

Why you ask?

The direction that you are supposed to hold it in is shown on the picture. It is almost impossible to get my hands comfortable on this thing because I cannot find the correct posture to hold it.

If I could find a way to hold it that control circle is too awkward to play like a pro.

Otherwise... The auto fire works and the buttons use the dome switches.

Ok that's it, feature over! I hope you enjoyed my look at three Quickshot controllers in Quickshot? Think Not!
