Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Nintendo

This is the "black sheep" of the Zelda series. It involves more RPG elements than any other Zelda game to date. Experience is gained and new moves are taught. Heck, Link has even taken up magic after his first adventure. Will the unusualness of this game help or hinder it in the long run?

The visuals have greatly improved in the two years separating the release of the first two games. The landscapes are vivid. The side-scrolling areas look great. and the palaces are...well I'll get to them later... Overall this game is much of an improvement over the original in graphics. (they also make a reference to the first Zelda's landscape!) Graphics B (84)

The overworld music is a sort of a remix of the first tune. The music of the town sets the atmosphere of the area. The dungeon tune is just so menacing... Is the music better than the original? Well... not quite... Music B+ (88)

Link has more moves than the original, this is good... Three sets of moves according to the manual. Hammer-swinging and Flute-blowing add much more depth to the game. The shield movement is clever. Overall, like I said before, the controls adds depth when necessary. Controls A+ (95)

This game is so unique is scares me. Ok... not really but it is different. The game is overhead and side scrolling at the same time! The way they combine is pure poetry. The dungeons are evil (as in any Zelda game). The only gripe that I have is that the game seems to have more "gaps" than the original. Oh well... Gameplay B (84)

Oh boy here we go... This is the hardest Zelda EVER! It is ridiculously tough from the get go. It requires immense skill to even get to the 2nd area... And the final dungeon/boss is ridiculously hard. Well, my ranting is over. This is the only downfall of this game Frustration D+ (68)

This game is very long, longer than the first Zelda game (I am referring to the 1st quest). Although this game only has one quest, it makes this up with more RPG elements than the first. This does give the game more length and depth however... Overall, there is a good amount length in this game but it is overshadowed by the first Zelda. Length A- (90)

Another bane in this Zelda is the fun factor. This game is almost too hard to have fun with. But I do somehow find solace in it. Mysterious? Probably! Maybe its the Zelda "charm" that comes with all of the games. I dunno... Like it's predecessor, it does leave something to be desired... Oh well... Fun Factor C+ (77)

Oh boy, another downfall of this game. You can play this game through once and then you start over with all of your spell. Sure it CAN be entertaining but this could have been a whole lot better. But, this game is very addictive once the momentum gets going. The momentum however is hard to start. Replay C- (70)

This game is hailed my most (stress most) to be a failure. Frankly, It is one of the most unique game I have encountered! The RPG, the side scrolling, the overhead view...all brilliant. This game is very highly underrated and overlooked because of this. Why? I don't know! Mystery Category (Uniqueness) A+ (100)

Final Grade: B+ (86)
